Niklas Rentz 3.1 8 Welcome to the Confluence Wiki of the Masterprojekt offered by the Real Time and Embedded Systems group on topics surrounding the REAKT initiative for the reactivation of the railway track Malente ~-~- Lütjenburg. What this Wiki is all about:
Niklas Rentz 1.1 9
Niklas Rentz 3.1 10 * We give you some insight about what the project is about.
11 * It's the place where we post important information on the project, such as due dates and similar information.
12 * And finally, it's the place where each group will document their project.

Niklas Rentz 1.1 15
Niklas Rentz 3.1 16 In Germany there are many small railway tracks not part of the network of freight and people transport that got abandoned over the years for various reasons, e.g. cost and logistics.
17 Reactivating such tracks is getting more attention with new technologies and concepts such as autonomous trains, solar technology, on-demand trains, and other digitilization of the rail, as well as growing political support for the "Verkehrswende".
18 One of these tracks is between Malente and Lütjenburg and can be used by universities and the industry as a test environment for developing new ideas, which cannot be done on main tracks due to safety reasons.

Niklas Rentz 3.1 23 In this Master's project we want you to bring your expertise as a computer scientist to the table and explore how we can help these visions on this unique opportunity of a physical railway in the vicinity of Kiel.
24 We have access to draisines which can currently be rented as a tourist attraction.
25 To monitor these draisines and allow tourists to get information on the track, we envision you to discuss and develop some ideas.
26 Some possible goals and ideas include the following:
Niklas Rentz 1.1 27
Niklas Rentz 3.1 28 * Track draisines via GPS/Galileo sattelite navigation
29 * Use of mobile phones / embedded hardware for tracking and information presentation
30 * Alerts for approaching crossings/other vehicles
31 * Indicate distance to next crossing/vehicle
32 * Alert if speed is too high
33 * Develop a cross-platform app using web technology
34 * Implement a digital twin of the system
Niklas Rentz 1.1 35
Niklas Rentz 3.1 36 The ideas should in general also scale beyond draisines.
